The coalition struggled with an outdated website that failed to clearly communicate its vision and mission, limiting user engagement and contributions. The existing design lacked the necessary custom functionality for effectively sharing diverse content and data, including research materials. Furthermore, its structure was not equipped to scale with the organization’s future growth, posing limitations on its operational capabilities.

Solution & Deliverables:

For this project, our client supplied detailed Figma designs and prototypes aimed at revitalizing their online presence. The objective was to effectively communicate the coalition’s vision and purpose, and to offer users clear ways to contribute and engage. We developed a pixel-perfect, fully responsive WordPress site using a custom theme—eschewing page builders to optimize performance. The scope of our work included implementing custom sliders, mobile and parallax designs, and integrating an interactive map and embedded content to enhance user interaction and site functionality.

Old website was obsolete, lacked integration with CRM system, did not facilitate online applications for the services provided, failed to meet compliance standards, and did not effectively highlight the organization’s mission and services.

Solution & Deliverables:

In this project, I enhanced this organization’s digital landscape through two major initiatives. First solution involved migrating the nonprofit’s website to a more functional and robust platform, enhancing its capabilities and integrations. This shift made it simpler to convey the organization’s mission to its audience and facilitated easier donation processes. Second solution was transitioning their data management to Salesforce, enabling automation, reducing dependence on manual data entry, and synchronizing data from various sources for more streamlined operations.

As the organization grew, the limitations of the old platform became increasingly apparent. Basic updates and maintenance required excessive effort, and adding new functionality became progressively more difficult. Many processes remained manual and time-consuming, hampering efficiency. Additionally, access to data was restricted, preventing its use for organizational improvements. These inefficiencies led to escalating costs that were becoming unsustainable for the organization.

Solution & Deliverables:

To overcome the challenges faced by the organization, a strategic decision was made to transfer the website to WordPress to take advantage of its scalability and customization features. A crucial part of this change was the extensive modification of the WPEvent Manager plugin, adding new functionalities to meet the organization’s specific requirements. To improve communication and data handling, FluentCRM was introduced, seamlessly transferring data from NationBuilder and integrating the SendGrid API for reliable weekly email notifications. The updated platform now allows different user types to register, each accessing a personalized and highly tailored dashboard. This complete transformation has led to significant growth, with the site now having over 10,000 users, hosting more than 200 events, and sending out over 5,000 weekly email alerts to an active user base.

The Northwest Arctic Borough in Alaska faced a pressing challenge in distributing COVID-19 federal relief funds to its citizens and small businesses, particularly due to the remote nature of its communities. The essential requirement was a secure online application system that was user-friendly and capable of handling comprehensive documentation and verification processes. The system needed to accommodate a variety of application scenarios and user types, ensuring accurate data validation. Additionally, it was crucial for this platform to not only automate data processing and collect analytics but also significantly minimize manual data handling to enhance efficiency for administrators. This was imperative to meet the tight deadlines for processing applications and ensuring timely aid distribution.

Solution & Deliverables:

For this project, WordPress was selected for its robust functionality and scalability, enabling the development of a customized, secure portal for various application types. The portal was designed to handle comprehensive applications, ensuring data validation and document verification to cater to diverse applicant needs. This system significantly streamlined the administrators’ review process, virtually eliminating the need for manual data handling and reducing errors.

Data automation played a key role in enhancing efficiency, allowing for the seamless processing of nearly 10,000 applications. This efficient system enabled the disbursement of over a million dollars to communities and businesses, saving hundreds of administrative hours in manual data entry and follow-ups. The project’s success was marked by its ability to meet a tight deadline, ensuring timely aid distribution to those in need.
